Safai Coffee was my home for almost nine years, and over that time I developed a wide array of merchandise and marketing materials. Promotions for Safai were always fun for me! Because the audience is so wide, I got to explore different styles for different reasons and seasons.
Menus
One of the most important creative projects that I managed was our menu. I was responsible for both what our offerings were and how they were presented. Over the years that I held this responsibility, we introduced many seasonal offerings that needed dedicated menus and marketing materials, and also regularly updated our main menu.
Most of these menus were made in Canva, so that future employees who were unfamiliar with tools such as InDesign would be able to edit them easily, and assets would be affordable and reusable.
Our 2023 Summer Menu was one of my first solo menu projects. When I look at these materials now, I see a lot of things I would do differently—adding logos and store information, changing how some elements fit together, using a program like Illustrator instead of Canva—but can appreciate my instinct to honor consistency.
Shortly after making these, and knowing they didn’t meet my standards but unsure of how to to improve, I decided to take classes in graphic design so that I could more effectively market our yummy drinks. I didn’t know at the time I would fall in love with design and decide to pursue a degree and career in the field!

One of the best things about being with Safai for as long as I have is getting to see my own progress over the years. Starting classes in Fall 2023, I applied much of what I learned immediately to create more engaging and navigable designs.
